Decatur has nearly 200 acres of city parkland.

Relax, connect, and play in a mix large recreational areas and small neighborhood pocket parks.

Take a stroll, plan a picnic or workout – several of our parks include tennis courts, athletic fields and pools. We have plenty of poppin’ playgrounds for little adventurers. And we have three dog parks and a skate park, too! See them all in the directory below.

Legacy Park, Decatur’s newest and largest park, contains 77-acres of forest, wetlands and meadows. The park also boasts a pond, athletic fields, historic buildings, and orchard. And there’s a brand new, inclusive playground with climbing equipment, slides, and a group swing! Universally-designed and sensory-rich, the playground goes beyond minimum accessibility standards to create a fun play experience for the widest possible array of physical and cognitive abilities.

The historic Decatur Cemetery is Decatur’s largest downtown greenspace. Just .5 miles from the Square, the 58 acres are a beautiful and peaceful place to walk with a peek into the city’s past. The cemetery is accessible to the public seven days a week until dark. Dogs are welcome but must stay on leash and on the paved roads. Join in the Friends of the Cemetery’s guided tour on second Sundays of the month, May–October, or hit the highlights on your own with the Lives that Made the City walking tour brochure.

Decatur also has several privately-owned greenspaces that are open to the public on a regular basis.

Agnes Scott College is a designated arboretum; take a self-guided tree walk on their campus. The Woodlands Garden is an urban preserve with 7.1 acres of natural piedmont forest. It’s free and open to the public during daylight hours; parking is limited. Decatur also has several community gardens.
