Decatur is a magnet for production crews seeking captivating locations. Our downtown storefronts, tree-lined streets, and historic spaces set the scene in a number of popular movies, television series, and streaming shows.

One iconic site is our downtown square, featured in HBO’s Watchmen; our glowing blue lanterns add intrigue and drama to its sci-fi scenes. The grand marble halls of the Historic DeKalb Courthouse provided a solemn setting in Marvel’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier series, while Hulu’s Candy featured actress Jessica Biel dodging reporters on the courthouse steps.

ABC’s Wonder Years reboot found filming spots in Legacy Park and Columbia Theological Seminary. The Decatur Cemetery made for poignant opening and closing scenes of Remember the Titans, and the hair-raising backdrop for the ghoul ambush that unfolded in Goosebumps.

Agnes Scott College, with its stunning Gothic-style architecture and picturesque grounds, has welcomed A-list movie stars and hosted the filming of 20 major motion pictures. The campus is easily spotted in Life of the Party, a college comedy featuring Melissa McCarthy. The Blind Side, featuring Sandra Bullock, and The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, starring Oprah Winfrey also filmed there. Other notable films include Scream 2, a defining teenage movie of the late ’90s.

The Pure station on East Ponce de Leon Avenue transformed into Gas ‘n Gulp for the film Zombieland. ACOD: Adult Children of Divorce centered much of its action at restaurant No. 246. Oakhurst Elementary School played a prominent role as the school attended by Dion in Netflix’s Raising Dion. And in Netflix’s Sweet Magnolias, the scenes taking place in the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church were shot at Decatur’s Oakhurst Presbyterian Church.

These are just a few of many productions dating back to the classic film Driving Miss Daisy three decades ago.
