Legacy Park, Decatur’s newest and largest park, contains 77-acres of forest, wetlands and meadows. The park also boasts a pond, athletic fields, historic buildings, and orchard. There are plenty of opportunities for active and passive recreation and the park is accessible by foot, bike or car.
The park has a brand-new, inclusive playground with climbing equipment, slides, and a group swing! Universally-designed and sensory-rich, the playground goes beyond minimum accessibility standards to create a fun play experience for the widest possible array of physical and cognitive abilities.
Purchased by Decatur in 2017, the site dates back to 1873 and included a farm, gardens and residential facilities for children. A conservation easement sets aside approximately 22 acres on the eastern portion of the site, including a pond and a Global Growers Garden.
