Ebster Recreation Center

Ebster Recreation Center is one of Decatur’s three community centers. It boasts a spacious full-size gymnasium, a raised performance stage, versatile multipurpose rooms, a food prep area/kitchen space, and a courtyard. The facility is ADA-compliant, ensuring accessibility with features like elevators, ramps, and ADA bathrooms. Located on the historic grounds of Decatur’s African-American Trinity High School and the Herring Street School, the center’s lobbies feature engaging exhibits on Decatur’s African-American Beacon community.

Gymnasium + Performance Stage
The Ebster Gymnasium is an ideal location for concerts, sports tournaments, stage performances, showcases, award presentations, lectures, concerts, and recitals. The 4,700 sq/ft gym provides bleacher seating for 250 and up to 500 if the floor is used for chair seating. The guy has a full-size basketball court with high ceilings, abundant natural light, and a projection screen. The 1,000 sq/ft raised stage looks out to the gymnasium. The PA system includes surround sound throughout the stage and gym. The performance stage includes an ADA-compliant ramp.

Studio, Classroom, and Multipurpose Rooms
Easter Recreation Center has versatile spaces ranging from 234 to 1,260 sq/ft. Some rooms are carpeted. Tables and chairs can be added.

Food Prep / Kitchen
The space is suited only for preparing and serving food and includes an ice machine, refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, and serving counter. Utensils are not provided.

Courtyard
Ebster Recreation Center includes a multilevel terrace with green space. The courtyard meets ADA guidelines.
